Soccer
Soccer is the most popular spot in Germany. In Germany soccer is called football. The German Football Association is the largest sports association in the world.
When Germany's government was not doing well many people were still invested in the sport. In a little over ten years, Germany has invested almost $1 billion in soccer youth programs. Last year the country sent seven teams into European competitions. All seven of the teams advanced to the knock out round which was a first. Three of the teams won their group and two teams were among four that advanced in their division. It is thought that German soccer teams are at the rise and are soon going to dominate.
Getting ready for the 2006 World Cup, Germany spent $1.84 billion to renovate the old and build new stadiums. Last year they set a record for the number of spectators, 13.8 million. In November of 2012 the members of the Dortmund club were told that there was a forty percent increase in revenue 215.2 million euros (about $284 million) and the club's profit was at a new record high of 34.3 million euros (about $45 million). The D.F.B. have a soccer program for children. They work with about 25000 kids, with 1000 coaches, at 366 locations all around the world. This cost at least $13 million a year.
